Frequently Asked Questions

Warranty Information

Your BeachGroomer Water Pump is covered for one year from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and tear, damage from improper installation, or using the system outside its intended specifications are not covered. If you experience any issues during your first year, call 800.817.1850 and we'll diagnose the problem and handle repairs or replacements at no cost to you.

Do I need the complete package or just the pump?

If you already have a filtration system, suction hose, check valve, and pump base—you just need the pump. If you're starting from scratch or missing any components, our Complete Pump Packages include everything and save you money versus buying pieces separately. Call 800.817.1850 if you're unsure what you have.

Which pump size do I need for my property?

Quick guide:

  • 1 HP: ½-1 acre, up to 8 sprinkler heads, cottages
  • 1.5 HP: 1-2 acres, 8-12 sprinkler heads, year-round homes [MOST POPULAR]
  • 2 HP: 2+ acres, 12+ sprinkler heads, estates

Not sure? Call 800.817.1850 and we'll calculate based on your sprinkler count, property elevation, and intended use.

Will this work with my existing filter and hoses?

Most likely, yes. Our pumps use standard NPT connections (1.5" or 2" depending on model) that fit virtually all residential and commercial filtration systems. If you already have a working lake irrigation setup, these pumps are direct replacements.

Which pump package size do I need?

It depends on three factors: property size, number of sprinkler zones, and intended use. Here's a quick guide:

  • 1 HP: ½ to 1 acre, up to 8 sprinkler heads, cottage or seasonal use
  • 1.5 HP: 1 to 2 acres, 8-12 sprinkler heads, year-round homes (most popular)
  • 2 HP: 2+ acres, 12+ sprinkler heads, estates or commercial applications

Not sure? Call 800.817.1850 and we'll calculate your exact requirements based on property size, elevation change, and equipment needs.

Can I upgrade from my current pump to a higher horsepower?

Yes, as long as your electrical service can handle it. Upgrading from 1 HP to 1.5 HP typically works fine with existing 110V or 220V service. Jumping to 2 HP requires 220V service (most homes have this, but verify first). Your existing hoses and fittings will work—just swap the pump. Call 800.817.1850 to discuss your specific upgrade scenario.

When should I use an overhaul kit instead of buying a new pump?

If your pump is 5+ years old and showing symptoms like reduced pressure, slight leaking, or unusual noise—an overhaul kit ($184-$340) can restore it to like-new condition. If the motor has completely failed or the housing is cracked, you need a new pump. Overhaul kits include new impeller, seals, bearings, and gaskets—everything that wears out with normal use.

How long do these pumps actually last?

With basic annual maintenance, Little Giant and Goulds cast iron pumps typically last 10-15+ years. Some customers report 20+ years. The cast iron construction doesn't deteriorate like plastic. Eventually you'll need to replace seals (that's what overhaul kits are for), but the pump body and motor are built to last decades.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

Not necessarily. If you already have outdoor power where your old pump was, it's a direct swap—disconnect old pump, connect new pump (same as connecting an appliance). If you're installing power for the first time or need a dedicated circuit, yes, hire an electrician for that part.

Can I use this pump to power my BeachGroomer system?

Absolutely—these are the exact same commercial-grade pumps we include in our BeachGroomer bundles. One pump can handle both lawn irrigation and BeachGroomer operation.

What maintenance do these pumps require?

Very minimal. During season: keep intake clear, check for leaks occasionally. Before winter: drain completely and store in a dry location. Annually: inspect seals and connections. After 5-10 years: when pressure drops or small leaks appear, install an overhaul kit ($184-$340) to replace worn seals and bearings. That's it. These aren't high-maintenance machines—they're workhorses designed to run season after season with minimal attention.

Our team has installed these pumps hundreds of times and can answer any technical questions about compatibility, sizing, or installation.

Why Cast Iron Beats Plastic Every Time

Big box stores sell plastic pumps for $400. Lakefront owners think they got a deal.

Here's what actually happens:

Year 1: Pump struggles with lake debris
Year 2: Impeller cracks, pressure drops
Year 3: Housing warps, seals fail, pump dies
Total cost: $400 (pump 1) + $450 (pump 2) + $500 (pump 3) + wasted weekends = $1,350+ and you're still replacing pumps

Our cast iron pumps:
One purchase. 10-15+ years of reliable operation.

Cast iron doesn't crack from debris. Doesn't warp from continuous use. Doesn't fail after two seasons. It just works—year after year after year.

The "expensive" $905 pump is actually the cheapest option. You just buy it once.

Already Have a System? Just Upgrade the Pump

Your filter works. Your hoses fit. Your electrical is wired. Your pump base is stable.
